About I Rate This
I Rate This is an independent buying-guide site about everyday laptops: the Windows laptops, Chromebooks and MacBooks people use for email, school work, video calls and the home office.
We write for people who would rather not learn a new language just to buy a computer. That includes parents buying for a teenager, adults helping an older parent and anyone replacing a laptop that has slowed to a crawl.
What we cover
Our guides cover laptops from Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, ASUS and Apple. We sort them by who will use them, by brand, by screen size and by the job they need to do.
We also explain the specs that confuse most shoppers. That means RAM, storage, processors, touch screens, battery life and Chromebook update dates.
How we work
We read the specs and the maker's own information for every laptop we cover. We also look at what owners often report after months of daily use.
Then we turn it into plain guides, side-by-side comparisons and clear picks. Our How we research page explains the steps.
What we are not
We don't make or sell laptops, and no brand pays us to rank its products. I Rate This isn't affiliated with Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, ASUS, Apple, Google or Microsoft.
We don't claim to have tested every laptop ourselves. When we pick one, we say why, based on its specs, its features and owner feedback.
We don't offer repair help or technical support for your computer. For hardware problems, contact the maker or a qualified repair shop.
How the site is paid for
Some links here go to stores like Amazon. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
That never decides which laptops we pick. Our affiliate disclosure has the details.
